Corriere di Garfagnana

The "Corriere di Garfagnana" is the most ancient newspaper of the Serchio's Valley. From the origins it has been dealing with actuality, culture, entertainment and the relationships among the foreign communities come from Garfagnana, counting almost 40.000 people, emigrated for different countries all over the world, from the end of 1800 to 1950, and called "the other Garfagnana".

It was found in 1881 and, nevertheless it was linked to "La Garfagnana", another newspaper born ten years later, from which it took the heading, it kept on its publications until 1933.That year, indeed, the propriety decided to stop all its publications, because of Giuseppe Bernardini's death. Also known as "Giber", he was the director from the birth of newspaper for the rest ofhis life, except for a brief period between 1897 and 1900.

In 1952 "La Garfagnana" started again its printings mounthly, and it took its original heading "Corriere di Garfagnana" in September 1992 under the management of the non-profit-making association "Corriere di Garfagnana", legally found with the aim of preserve and protect the newspaper and operate in a way that the "Corriere" could keep on being an indipendent informative instrument of our valley.
